At Human Solutions™ we appreciate that because we all lead such hectic lifestyles, many of us want to be able to manage our and our family’s health in our own way. That is why we created Plan Smart™ care-giving, life planning, and health management services.

Each of the services included in Plan Smart™ has been developed to allow clients to take a proactive approach to managing everyday challenges and life transitions. For the most part, all of these services are delivered by phone or online and often include a personalized package of information and useful tools such as software programs that have been selected with your best interests in mind.

Childcare and Parenting

As any parent knows, parenting is a long-term commitment that comes with many challenges. Human Solutions™’ childcare and parenting specialists are able to help parents who may be struggling with any number of parenting issues. Our professionals provide personalized support and up-to-date information, saving employees endless hours of research and providing peace of mind.

New Parent Outreach Service

This service provides employees who have recently become or are about to become a new parent, with a unique outreach support process designed to empower them with knowledge and skills.

Elder and Family Care Service

Balancing elder care and career responsibilities can be overwhelming and extremely stressful. Human Solutions™ has elder care specialists on staff to work one-on-one with employees and provide an immediate needs assessment and follow-up with customized information. Our specialists will also speak directly with the elderly person if that would be helpful to the situation, or they may bring in an independent provider to undertake an in-home assessment.

Life Planning Services

Financial Advisory Service

The focus of the financial counselling and planning service is assessment, short-term counselling and referral when required. Service areas include:

  • Cost of living analysis
  • Debt crisis management
  • Early or planned retirement
  • Financial options related to separation and divorce
  • Illness and disability
  • Preventative money and debt management
  • Workforce transition and job loss

Financial counselling can be provided through individual counselling or group presentations. It can also be accessed through telephone and/or email consultation.

Legal Advisory

Available to employees and eligible dependents, this is a national, 24/7 telephone legal advice and counselling service. Employees are provided with a toll free number as well as a code number and can call the national phone line to speak directly to a lawyer. The lawyer will provide advice, direction and, if necessary, a referral to a local attorney. Service areas include:

  • Family Law
  • Separation/Divorce
  • Bankruptcy
  • Summons/Subpoenas

Career Counselling

Human Solutions™ Career Counselling includes an array of services developed to assist a person who is planning or considering a career transition or change. Our career counselling service provides a thorough assessment of interests, values, aptitudes, and motivations. Feedback and coaching is provided and a plan is developed to assist an individual to take the steps toward realizing his or her ambitions and career aspirations. Counselling is provided by clinicians with expertise in career counselling located across the country, using the most up-to-date and reliable tools on the market.

Pre-Retirement Planning Service

For most people, approaching retirement can be a time of excitement and apprehension. But with some pre-planning and knowledge, it is possible to enjoy a smooth and stress-free transition into retirement. Human Solutions™’ Pre-Retirement Planning Service provides the opportunity for employees to receive a package of customized information and/or speak directly with a career or a financial counsellor as appropriate. Employees speak with a specialist who will complete a comprehensive assessment of their psychological, emotional, and financial needs as they approach retirement. The employee may receive a personalized information package.

Shift-Worker Support

Working shifts can put a strain on workers’ health, well-being, family and social life. Human Solutions™’ specialists can help those individuals who are struggling to make working shifts a part of a healthy and rewarding personal and work life. Human Solutions™ can also facilitate one-day workshops for groups of employees who would like to ease the stress of working shifts.  If an employee is experiencing difficulties related to working shifts, our specialists start by completing a full assessment to ensure all possible concerns are addressed. The specialist may also put together a package of information, including Human Solutions™’ handbook: Making Shift Work Easier and Safer, to assist employees in taking responsibility for ensuring their health and well-being.

Health Management and Health Coaching Services

12 Weeks to Wellness

12 Weeks to Wellness is a self-directed program that offers a consultation with a weight loss and behaviour change consultant. Participants receive a step-by-step guide to behaviour change, an accompanying CD and a fitness and weight loss consultation.  It assists with the following:

  • Giving participants an opportunity to take a holistic approach to improving their health and wellness and participants can focus on their health change efforts on specific areas of need, as identified in their health risk assessment
  • Helping participants develop new ways of thinking and working through behavioural changes by having a one-on-one consultation
  • Offering participants access to an online health library containing articles and resource materials related to health and wellness. Support materials supplement the core program workbook

Nutritional Counselling

Our nutrition services cover a full range of topics that deal with questions or problems, including:

  • Adjusting eating patterns for lifestyle
  • Eating for energy
  • Making meal preparation easier
  • Prevention/management of chronic disease through dietary changes
  • Proper nutrition for a busy life

Employees can translate the latest nutritional science and leading-edge information into practical strategies, healthy eating advice and tools they can use. Our high level of service standards will guarantee employees are satisfied with our help or we will find them another dietitian. This service is available by telephone and internet.

Smoking Cessation Program

Allowing smokers to quit calmly and comfortably will improve not only their health, but also that of the organization.

Human Solutions™’ Smoking Cessation Program is designed to address all facets of smoking, including the physical dependence (i.e. nicotine), as well as the psychological dependence (i.e. smoking habits and the desire to smoke). This personalized support process is built on proven, evidence-based, behaviour-change methods, built in three e-Learning modules for those committed first time quitters, those trying again to quit and those who want to quit but are unsure about their commitment. In addition a work book provides ongoing exercises and a coach is always a phone call away.  Smoking is one of the most difficult of all addictions to break. Our coaches will provide ongoing support to help employees to quit.

Our approach can include an on-site launch to kick start you towards a safer, healthier workplace, and financial savings!

Health and Wellness Companion (Health Risk Assessment)

The Health and Wellness Companion is a comprehensive self-guided self-development program that is designed to provide an employee with a personal wellness plan of action to improve and maintain their health. The program asks a series of questions across many areas of health and lifestyle, which is summarized in a baseline profile that can be used to track risk and progress over time. The program is personal and confidential and has several unique features, including a personal record keeping system and links to other sites such as up-to-date medical and pharmaceutical libraries. With this program, an employee can:

  • Access the Health and Wellness Companion in the privacy of their home or office
  • Engage in a personal health risk assessment across a variety of domains
  • Receive information to develop a personal wellness plan
  • Receive feedback from the Health and Wellness Companion regarding progress
